Weight loss is probably one of the most popular #lifegoals out there.

Many turn to diet plans like intermittent fasting, while some try food supplements like MCT oil. 

Another popular trick that’s supposed to help you lose weight is the 3 day juice cleanse weight loss plan.

The 3 day juice cleanse weight loss plan aims to:

  • Reset and heal your digestive system
  • Hydrate your body
  • Boost your energy
  • Reduce inflammation in your body
  • Promote weight loss

The idea behind the 3 day juice cleanse weight loss plan is that by ridding your body of toxins and all that junk you got from consuming highly-processed, refined and instant food as well as sugary drinks, your body can function more efficiently, allowing you to lose weight in the process.

But does the 3 day juice cleanse weight loss plan really work? Did it work for me and for others who were brave enough to try?

What is the 3 day juice cleanse weight loss plan?

When you go on a 3-day juice cleanse, you say goodbye to all solid food and restrict your diet to nothing but juice, nut milk, herbal tea and water for 3 consecutive days.

A typical 3 day juice cleanse weight loss plan looks like this:

Upon waking – lukewarm water with a splash of fresh lemon

8:00~9:00 a.m. – 1st juice

10:30~11:30 a.m. – 2nd juice

1:00~2:00 p.m. – 3rd juice

3:00~4:00 p.m. – 4th juice

5:00~6:00 p.m. – 5th juice

7:00~8:00 p.m. – smoothie or nut milk

You’re also allowed as much water and herbal tea (non caffeine tea) as you like, which is really consoling when you’re on a diet. I’ll be honest… I found the above schedule really neat and thought, hey! This isn’t too bad. You’d be eating (more like drinking) every 2 hours or so.

But here’s the thing.

Consuming your juices on time isn’t the most important part of the 3 day juice cleanse weight loss plan. That’s because in this diet plan, the quality of juice matters the most.

Quality over quantity is what they often say and that truly applies when you’re on juice cleansing.

Let me explain.

When you go 3 days with only juice, nut milk, herbal teas and water sustaining you, you have to make sure that the juices you consume are top quality. And by top quality I mean cold-pressed, all natural (preferably organic) and most of all, fresh. They say juices are best consumed the same day they’re pressed.

Which leads us to one of the challenges of the 3 day juice cleanse weight loss plan…

And that is how to get the perfect juice for your 3-day purge.

Where and how do I get quality juices for weight loss?

You have 2 options when it comes to juicing:

Either you juice fresh produce on your own or buy them.

Juicing on your own requires time, effort (in preparing, washing, peeling, cutting and storing your juices) as well as the right juicer for the job. The best one to use based on reviews and personal experience is the triturating type which juices vegetables, fruits and wheatgrass well while giving you most of the nutrition from the produce.

Doing it on your own also requires you to efficiently plan what and how much juice you’ll be consuming in the next 3 days. Since the 3 day juice cleanse weight loss plan is a mix of green juices, citrus and fruit juices and nut milks, you’ll have to look up recipes for those as well.

Buying juices looks to be the easier route but you’d still have to choose your juices well. Thankfully, there are more juicing companies now, more than ever. I think it’s partly because of the high demand for freshly-pressed juice. And you know what happens when there are more companies offering the same products? They make their products even better – giving you better choices for quality juices and drinks. Some even offer a 3 day juice cleanse weight loss plan, making it so much easier for you.

DIY juice or ready-made, the effects of juice cleansing is different for everybody… which brings us to the next question…

Does the 3 day juice cleanse weight loss plan really work?

This is a very tricky question… or at least I think it is! We all have different reasons why we want to start the 3-day juice cleanse. But if weight loss is what you’re aiming to achieve with juicing, I have a not-so-exciting news for you…

Juicing alone will most likely not make you lose a significant amount of weight.

And I’m just being honest here. A quick search online will probably lead you to mixed results, meaning that it may have worked for some but others weren’t that lucky.

I’m not entirely sure why but I think it’s because:

Juice cleansing wasn’t really meant for losing weight.

It was designed to detox and cleanse your digestive system. Kinda like giving your body a break of some sort and feeding it healthy, clean food through natural and fresh juices. I think that if you’re the kind of person who frequently eats processed food and/or fastfood, you may notice a slight weight loss. This could be due to loss of water weight and reduced caloric intake.

If you’re already eating healthy, I won’t be surprised if you get little to no difference in weight at the end of the 3 day juice cleanse weight loss plan. Still, that doesn’t take away the fact that your body will greatly benefit from purging and detoxifying on a regular basis.

Helpful 3-Day Juice Cleanse Tips

Just because there’s no assurance of significant weight loss with juice cleansing, it doesn’t mean you should lose interest in it entirely. If you’re still willing to give it a go, here are helpful tips I can share to help make your 3-day juice cleanse a success:

Slowly wean from coffee, tea, sweets and fatty food. Avoid eating unhealthy food at least a week before starting the 3 day juice cleanse weight loss plan. Doing so will save you from a headaches and unusually “intense” cravings during the juice cleansing. Trust me!

Limit physical activity. I’m not saying you should stop going out or doing anything around the house. But stick to what you usually do on a normal day and nothing more. Remember, your caloric intake is lower than usual so it’s good to preserve your energy for things you really need to do… at least on day 1.

Do it with a friend. The 3 day juice cleanse weight loss plan can be very challenging. Just like working out, eating clean, and probably everything else that has to do with restricting yourself, it’s so much better to actually have someone to talk to… someone who shares the same triumphs and the same miseries as you. Knowing you’re not doing it alone makes juicing much more tolerable.
