But before we get to the details, I need to be honest with you.

Losing Weight in 2 Weeks: The Savage Truth

There are tons of articles telling you how to lose 15 pounds in 2 weeks already live and viewable.

A quick search will give you a mixed bag of hits ranging from the so-so to the surreal.

But only very few fitness bloggers, health junkies or whatever it is they call themselves, actually care to tell you that most of the weight you’re losing in the first 2 weeks aren’t fat.

That is:

In the first few days or weeks of your how-to-lose-15-pounds-in-2-weeks journey, you’re actually getting rid of water weight.

But don’t worry about it.

That’s totally normal!

When you go on a diet or say a cleaner, healthier meal plan with little to no added sugar and simple carbohydrates, your insulin levels drop significantly.

This forces your body to burn stored carbohydrates for energy.

And this helps you lose weight because:

Carbohydrates hold 3x its weight in water.


If you have 500 grams of glycogen, a form of carbs, stored in your body, you actually have 1,500 grams of excess water weight on top of the 500 grams of carbohydrates.

In the case of above, you can actually get rid of 2 kilos if you successfully burn the 500 grams of stored carbs in your body!

Amazing, huh?! 

But that’s not all…

Your body is not only capable of losing excess water weight. It is also very capable of burning fat and “real” weight loss.

Here are my 5 proven and tested ways on how to lose 15 pounds in 2 weeks:

1. Cut off added sugar and simple carbohydrates from your diet.

For me, this is probably one of the most difficult things I had to do for weight loss.

Other guides on how to lose 15 pounds in 2 weeks tell you to cut off all sugars entirely but in my own opinion, having a small portion of fruit which naturally has fructose is so much better than spiraling out of control for a chocolate chip cookie!

So my advice to you is to stay away from food with added sugar which pretty much includes everything except fruits and vegetables that are naturally sweet.

As for carbs, other articles on how to lose 15 pounds in 2 weeks explicitly recommend cutting it off entirely but losing weight in a couple of weeks is still possible with a low carb diet.

The key here is the type of carbohydrates you’re consuming.

There are 2 types of carbohydrates:

First, we have the simple carbohydrates (aka bad carbs) like white bread, white rice and other highly-processed and refined source of carbs.

Second, we have the complex carbohydrates (aka good carbs) such as fiber-rich whole grains, beans, vegetables and fruits.

For me, simple carbs are not necessarily evil. It’s just that this type of carbohydrates is digested far too quickly by our bodies, causing blood sugar levels to shoot up.

Complex carbs, on the other hand, are slowly digested and are fiber-rich. Fiber-rich food is best when you want to lose weight as it makes you feel full and helps fight away the feeling of hunger.

Complex carbohydrates are also chockfull of nutrients like vitamins and minerals as opposed to the empty calories from simple carbs.

2. Choose lean proteins.

Your choice of protein also matters

Be mindful of the meats you’re eating. Trim fat, especially if it’s pork or beef.

If you can, stick to chicken and fish as your main sources of protein.

By the way, there’s no need to worry about salmon which others recommend not to eat if you want to lose weight.

Salmon and most fishes are not only a good source of protein but good fats as well!

Plant-based foods are a great source of protein too!

Think tofu, edamame, lentils, peanuts, almonds, chickpeas, quinoa, soybeans, and even spinach.

Some of these foods have higher protein content than meat.

And that makes sense because actually, animals get their protein from plants!

3. Count your calories.

Probably the most crucial tip on how to lose 15 pounds in 2 weeks is to restrict your calories.

I’m not talking about eyeballing here! It is very important to lower your calorie intake per day and to really follow through.

Most people who have gone on the 2-week 15lbs. weight loss challenge recommend no more than 1,000 to 1,200 calories a day but that totally depends on your body and health condition.

If you’re on medication, pregnant, nursing or have an eating disorder, do not proceed without your health provider’s consent.

4. Practice intermittent fasting.

You may have heard of intermittent fasting as a way to lose weight and yes, that’s not only a “fad.”

It really works!

Here’s how intermittent fasting can promote rapid and sustainable weight loss:

It restricts your calorie intake. 

There are a lot of intermittent fasting methods out there but all of them involve 2 time frames: one for eating and one for fasting.

For example, the eat-stop-eat method involves 24 hours of fasting once or twice a week.

Another is the 16/8 intermittent fasting method which gives you an eating window of 8 hours (usually during the day) and 16 hours of fasting.

Any of the above intermittent fasting methods leads to significant weight loss of about 3% to 8% your initial body weight.

What’s even more is that it also helps you lose belly fat, reducing people’s waist size by up to 7%, according to studies.

That’s pretty impressive for simply scheduling your meals and portioning appropriately!

It boosts metabolism. 

Intermittent fasting affects your hormones, thereby driving up your metabolism.

It promotes metabolism by:

  • Boosting the human growth hormone (HGH) by up to 5x, helping the body to build muscles and lose fat
  • Breaking down body fat by releasing norepinephrine (noradrenaline) to fat cells
  • Lowering insulin levels, forcing the body to burn fat for energy instead

If you were to ask me for only one tip on how to lose 15 pounds in 2 weeks, I would say go hard on intermittent fasting because it is that effective!

5. Adopt an active lifestyle.

They say losing weight is 80% what you eat and 20% exercise.

And I can attest to that! 

It’s very easy to tell yourself to eat clean and healthy, to watch your calories, and to not overeat during your eating windows when you do intermittent fasting but it’s actually hard to follow through.

Add to that the pressure of going to the gym, joining a HIIT class or getting along with your yoga instructor!

Just a piece of advice:

You don’t have to do it.

I know it sounds crazy.

Here I am, sharing to you how to lose 15 pounds in 2 weeks yet not really pushing you to work out and exercise.


That’s because there’s an easier way to burn calories that doesn’t involve going to the gym or paying for classes…

You just have to be more active on the daily.

Make small changes to your daily routine like take the stairs instead of riding the elevator.

Walk your dog more often.

Go on a hiking trip with friends.

Jog for at least 30 minutes a day.

Join a fun run.

In other words: just move!

Integrating exercise and movement into your lifestyle has got to be one of the best ways to burn calories without making it a “chore.”
