The topic of our conversation today is paleo vs keto.

We’re going to be talking about what they are, their differences, how you can do them, their effects on the body, and so much more.

And then at the end, we’ll help you decide which one is better and more doable for your weight loss goal.

So, shall we start?

Paleo Vs Keto: What Are They?

Paleo Diet

-    Paleo, or sometimes called “the caveman diet” or “ancestral diet”, is a low-carb diet plan that relies heavily on the idea of eating foods that are available to early humans in order to lose weight and improve one’s overall health.

This diet focuses on eating foods that are low in carbohydrates, rich in fibre, and high in protein.

So basically, anything that is natural and available to our ancestors at least 10,000 years ago.

And for a lot of people, Paleo is not just a diet because it is also a lifestyle that can help you improve your body’s natural biological function by mimicking the lifestyle of the ancient people who lived in the Paleolithic age.

Keto Diet

-    The ketogenic diet, or also known as Keto diet, is a low-carb high-fat dietary plan similar to paleo.

The primary aim of this particular form of diet is to help your body reach ketosis.

 What is ketosis, you ask?

It’s the state where your body uses fat as the primary source of energy instead of carbohydrates.

During the ketosis, fats will be delivered to your liver and transformed into ketones.

These ketones will then enter your bloodstream and provide you with the energy you need.

Paleo Vs Keto: Food Permissions

Both paleo and keto diets have different types of food that you should focus on in case you want to try them.

While they are all highly available in the market, some are more budget-friendly and easier to achieve than the others.

Look at the lists below to check them out.

Paleo Diet

•    Organic fruits

•    Vegetables, except corn as it is a type of grain

•    Naturally raised meats

•    Wild-caught fish

•    Seeds and nuts

•    Raw honey, maple syrup, coconut sugar, and other similar natural sweeteners

•    Coconut oil, olive oil, ghee, lard, butter, and even avocado oil

Keto Diet

•    Seafood like salmon, shrimp, and crabs

•    Cheese

•    Avocados

•    Poultry and meat, grass-fed ones preferably

•    Eggs

•    Olive Oil

•    Nuts and seeds

•    Butter

•    Shirataki Noodles

Verdict:

Food permissions-wise, it’s a tie.

While paleo diet permits basically most of the similar foods that keto does, plus fruits and vegetables, they are more on the organic/natural side which is not always inexpensive or available in markets everywhere.

Keto, on the other hand, allows a lot of food varieties as well.

However, you need to be very careful with your choices as it should follow the strict low-carb high-fat requirement of the diet.

Paleo Vs Keto: Food Restrictions

Keto and Paleo diets have food restrictions as well.

In this category, we’ll check and see which one is stricter and which one offers more freedom.

Are you ready? Let’s find out.

Paleo Diet

•    Legumes

•    ALL types of grains

•    Potatoes

•    Refined sugar

•    Salt

•    Most types of dairy

•    Refined vegetable oils and

•    Processed foods

Keto Diet

•    Legumes

•    Bread

•    Pasta

•    Rice

•    Soft drinks

•    Sport drinks

•    Beer

•    Fruits

•    Margarine

•    Potatoes (Chips, fries, etc.)

Verdict:

Paleo Diet. Keto diet follows a strict format in order for it to work. Paleo, on the other hand, doesn’t. This means you are free to eat starchy fruits and vegetables. You can also munch on foods rich in healthy fats such as avocados, nuts, and even dark chocolates.

Paleo Vs Keto: Advantages and Disadvantages

Verdict:

Keto Diet.  Paleo diet brings a lot of pros, and cons, let’s get that right.

However, keto covers more areas that are very helpful especially if you’re trying to get fit. In addition to that, it can even help treat seizures.

Paleo Vs Keto: Which One Is Easier To Follow

After sharing with you their advantages and disadvantages, it’s time to see which is easier to stick to for a long period of time.

Diets don’t do wonders overnight, you know. So it’s important to know which one is easier to follow and stick to in the long run.

Read the following to find out.

Paleo Diet

-    Unlike with keto diet, paleo doesn’t require you to stay in the state of ketosis.

This means you don’t need to weigh the food you eat each day just to keep going with the plan, you also don’t need to check your carb intake every now and then.

A lot of people consider paleo as more of a lifestyle than a diet, making it easier to adjust and stick to for a longer period of time.

Keto Diet

-    Although the keto diet allows you to include fatty foods that are not usually found in other establish diet plans, the strictness of its formula might put you off.

You won’t be able to eat certain types of food including sugary and starchy ones just so you could stay in the state of ketosis. It’s that fragile.

In fact, eating way too many nuts or banana can remove your body from being in the state of ketosis.

This is one of the reasons why keto diet practitioners find it hard to stick with the diet as a little more of a certain food can ruin the entire process.

Verdict:

In this paleo vs keto category, paleo takes the cake.

With paleo, you don’t need to calculate everything you eat.

You just need to make sure that they are included in the allowed food groups of the diet.

Of course, you wouldn’t be able to eat processed meat favourites such as bacon or ham, but that’s definitely better than having to check and compute the nutrients present in each food you consume just to follow the diet’s strict formula.

Paleo Vs Keto: Weight Loss

It’s time to find out which diet is more efficient when it comes to weight loss.

Although both paleo and keto are said to help people lose extra pounds, one might just be more effective than the other.

Read the following to find out.

Paleo Diet

-    Although paleo brings a lot of benefits to the body, weight loss is not always guaranteed to be one of them.

Yes, the foods that paleo focuses on are more on the lean and organic side so they should be good for weight loss but the thing is, they are not enough.

You need to reduce your calorie intake as well so you could start shedding those extra pounds.

This means that binging on nuts and fruits can be a bad idea as well for it can make you gain more weight instead of losing it.

Keto Diet

-    Keto’s popularity has skyrocketed over the last few years, and there’s a pretty good reason why.

With Keto, you will feel satiated for a longer period of time meaning you’ll be able to eat less which will then lead to weight loss.

Verdict:

Keto Diet. Since keto pacifies your desire to eat, it can help you lose weight quicker than paleo does.

In addition to that, claims of keto’s weight loss efficiency have been backed with proper pieces of evidence from people who have tried it.

However, it is important to keep in mind that it is very strict so slipping in and out of the state of ketosis might not give you the results you need.

… Paleo Diet
